Darling in the Franxx
Two word rounds this anime up perfectly, Evangelion like.
Not only was this anime filled with sprinkles of Evangelion, Code Geass and Gundum vibes, (minus the Shinji x Kaworu) but it took the Mecha anime genre and managed to modernize it. Although personally I’m still confused on how those Franxx work.
Nonetheless, the anime was an amazing series that is not only one of my favourite animes of Spring - Summer 2018, but surely a lot of other otakus out there.
One thing to point out is the fact that the anime had presented itself with such a beautiful, detailed and colorful art style. It’s not surprising seeing that Studio Trigger and A1 Pictures (CloverWorks) had collaborated to produce it, This led to me thinking that what was going to be produced was going to be a masterpiece but after watching the first episode, it was already higher than my expectations.
On top of this, the anime has made a good decision keep it’s opening “Kiss of Death” (which in my opinion, sits beside unravel as my favorite anime OPs) even though they had changed the ending several times already.
This anime is also noteworthy of having perfectly made characters (except for Futoshi and my small hatred towards Ichigo) accompanied by a beautifully written story line where each episode end perfectly while still keeping me on the edge and wanting more.
Furthermore, the use of scenery shots in most anime might be used to cut animation costs but here in Darling in the Franxx, they are perfect for setting the mood in a particular scene and moment.
In summary, imagine if SAO had beautiful colors, amazing story line and giant mecha bots controlled by pairs of opposite genders and one with a demon girl.
…
Yeah. Thats Darling in the Franxx for you.
Enjoy.
An average otaku,
銘ちゃん
